The True Love

There\u2019s a faith in loving fiercely the one who is rightfully yours
\nespecially if you have waited years and especially if part of you never
\nbelieved you could deserve this loved and beckoning hand held
\nout to you this way.<\/p>\n
I am thinking of faith now and the testaments of loneliness
\nand what we feel we are worthy of in this world.
\nYears ago in the Hebrides I remember an old man
\nwho would walk every morning on the gray stones
\nto the shore of baying seals, who would press his
\nhat to his chest in the blustering salt wind and say his
\nprayer to the turbulent Jesus hidden in the waters.<\/p>\n
And I think of the story of the storm and the people
\nwaking and seeing the distant, yet familiar figure,
\nfar across the water calling to them.
\nAnd how we are all preparing for that abrupt waking
\nand that calling and that moment when we have to say yes!<\/p>\n
Except it will not come so grandly, so biblically,
\nbut more subtly, and intimately in the face
\nof the one you know you have to love.
\nSo that when we finally step out of the boat
\ntoward them we find, everything holds us,
\nand everything confirms our courage.<\/p>\n
And if you wanted to drown, you could,
\nBut you don\u2019t, because finally, after all
\nthis struggle and all these years,
\nyou don\u2019t want to anymore.
\nYou\u2019ve simply had enough of drowning
\nand you want to live, and you want to love.
\nAnd you\u2019ll walk across any territory,
\nand any darkness, however fluid,
\nand however dangerous to take the one
\nhand and the one life, you know belongs in yours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
