Carlos Barrios was born into a Spanish family on El Altiplano, the highlands of Guatemala. His home was in Huehuetenango, also the dwelling place of the Maya, Mam tribe. With other Maya and other indigenous tradition keepers, the Mam carry part of the ‘old ways on Turtle Island (North America).They are keepers of time, authorities on remarkable calendars that are ancient, elegant and relevant.
Mr. Barrios is a historian, an anthropologist and investigator. After studying with traditional elders for 25 years since the age of 19, he has also became a Mayan Ajq’ij, a ceremonial priest and spiritual guide, Eagle Clan. Years ago, along with his brother, Gerardo, Carlos initiated an investigation into the different Mayan calendars. He studied with many teachers. He says his brother Gerardo interviewed nearly 600 traditional Mayan elders to widen their scope of knowledge.
“Anthropologists visit the temple sites,” Mr. Barrios says, “and read the inscriptions and make up stories about the Maya, but they do not read the signs correctly. It’s just their imagination. Other people write about prophecy in the name of the Maya. They say that the world will end in December 2012.The Mayan elders are angry with this. The world will not end. It will be transformed.”
The indigenous have the calendars, and know how to accurately interpret it, not others. The Mayan Calendars comprehension of time, seasons, and cycles has proven itself to be vast and sophisticated. The Maya understand 17 different calendars, some of them charting time accurately over a span of more than ten million years. The calendar that has steadily drawn global attention since 1987 is called the Tzolk’in or Cholq’ij.
Devised ages ago and based on the cycle of the Pleiades, it is still held as sacred. With the indigenous calendars, native people have kept track of important turning points in history. For example, the day keepers who study the calendars identified an important day in the year One Reed, Ce Acatal, as it was called by the Mexicans. That was the day when an important ancestor was prophesied to return, “coming like a butterfly”. In the Western Calendar, the One Reed date correlates to Easter Sunday, April 21,1519 the day that Hernando Cortez and his fleet of 11 Spanish galleons arrived from the East at what is today called Vera Cruz, Mexico.
When the Spanish ships came toward shore, native people were waiting and watching to see how it would go. The billowing sails of the ships did indeed remind the scouts of butterflies skimming the ocean surface. In this manner was a new era initiated, an era they had anticipated through their calendars.
The Maya termed the new era the Nine Bolomtikus, or nine Hells of 52 years each. As the nine cycles unfolded, land and freedom were taken from the native people. Disease and disrespect dominated. What began with the arrival of Cortez, lasted until August 16, 1987 – a date many people recall as Harmonic Convergence.
Millions of people took advantage of that date to make ceremony in sacred sites, praying for a smooth transition to a new era, the World of the Fifth Sun. From that 1987 date until now, Mr. Barrios says, we have been in a time when the right arm of the materialistic world is disappearing, slowly but inexorably. We are at the cusp of the era when peace begins, and people live in harmony with Mother Earth.
We are no longer in the World of the Fourth Sun, but we are not yet in the World of the Fifth Sun. This is the time in-between, the time of transition. As we pass through transition there is a colossal, global convergence of environmental destruction, social chaos, war, and ongoing Earth changes.
All this, Mr. Barrios says, was foreseen via the simple, spiral mathematics of the Mayan calendars. “It will change,” Mr. Barrios observes. “Everything will change.” He said Mayan Daykeepers view the Dec. 21, 2012 date as a rebirth, the start of the World of the Fifth Sun. It will be the start of a new era resulting from and signified by the solar meridian crossing the galactic equator, and the earth aligning itself with the center of the galaxy.
At sunrise on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 26,000 years the Sun rises to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. This cosmic cross is considered to be an embodiment of the Sacred Tree, The Tree of Life, a tree remembered in all the world’s spiritual traditions.
Some observers say this alignment with the heart of the galaxy in 2012 will open a channel for cosmic energy to flow through the earth, cleansing it and all that dwells upon it, raising all to a higher level of vibration. This process has already begun, Mr. Barrios suggested. “Change is accelerating now, and it will continue to accelerate. If the people of the earth can get to this 2012 date in good shape, without having destroyed too much of the Earth, Mr.Barrios said, we will rise to a new, higher level. But to get there we must transform enormously powerful forces that seek to block the way.

Recently, our high mountain village was blessed with the presence of four Tibetan monks and their spiritual leader, Gankar Tulku Rinpoche, recognized as the third incarnation of Gankar Tulku, the great master of the Dzindu Monastery in Tibet. Rinpoche is presently based in India at the Drepung Loseling University but travels yearly. He leads tours with groups of monks, some of whom are scholars, musicians, and artisans, and participates in many public events, forums, and conferences. He is the founder and director of Khacholing Center in Minnesota and Tardo Ling Center in San Francisco, and continues to work for the rebuilding of the Dzindu Monastery in Tibet. Jozef Dominguez, founder of OneJozef and Sierra Dove Global Association, had met the monks while on a sacred sites trip to India last year and was the liaison for their visit to Southeastern NM.
They came to Lincoln County for the week of September 20th – 27th providing teachings, empowerments and pujas while also creating a sand mandala at The Art Connection, a non-profit association benefiting all ages through the arts, in midtown, Ruidoso. All events were open to the public with a small donation suggested. I was able to attend both the opening and closing ceremonies for the creation and dispersion of the sand mandala which were rich with chanting, ritual and profound symbolism. During the course of the week, two of the monks worked six hours a day placing grains of colored sand through small tubes onto the mandala design. The chosen mandala was of White Umbrella Tara, a deity that helps eliminate evil thoughts and can help put an end to disasters, bestow blessings, increase profits, and release souls from suffering. The mandala evolved daily into an exquisite representation of this beneficial manifestation. At the ending ceremony, Gankar Tulku Rinpoche led the monks in another powerful ritual dismantling the sand mandala, dispersing some of the sand in the Rio Ruidoso, then saving the rest to be used in ceremonies for the dying.
I also attended three teachings, each two hours long, at the Capitan Ponderosa; home of Michele Caskey who hosts such gatherings for Jozef and the Sierra Dove Global. There is also a walking Seven-Circuit Labyrinth and a sweat lodge on the property. Gankar Tulku Rinpoche gave us the teachings with the help of his translator, Tenzin, and another monk.
I highly recommend that anyone who has a chance to hear these precious, profound teachings from any Rinpoche, or Tibetan Spiritual master, to do so. Just being in their presence instills a sense of peace and tranquility. I’ve been a student of Tibetan Buddhism for many years and have developed a deep love and respect for these selfless servants of compassion, love and kindness. I’m including some photos from the week’s events, and some links to videos that show more of the ceremonies.

How does your intuition speak to you? Do you receive information in words, feelings, a body sensation? Do you just know? Ask your intuition questions and pay attention to the answers and act on the information you receive.
2. What are you enthusiastic about?
The root of the word enthusiasm is entheos. It literally means “God Within.” Just think, when you feel enthusiastic about your dreams it means that God is speaking through you and saying “yes” to your goals! The feeling of enthusiasm is one of the ways your intuition speaks to you. What makes you excited, happy, delighted? What do you look forward to each day? Do more of it!
3. Be clear about your goals.
We are often quite clear about what we don’t want. Spend time thinking about what you do want. What does your ideal life look like? Draw pictures or cut out scenes from magazines that illustrate the life you want to create. Write in your journal, envision. Spend time each day imagining your ideal life. Envision the details of that life. Imagine you are living it now. What are you wearing? What are you feeling? Who are the people around you? The power is within your mind and heart to bring forth the new life you want.
4. Spend time in prayer and meditation.
Answers often come to life’s questions through self-reflection. Prayer and meditation are two ways we have of slowing down enough to listen to the still, quiet voice of our Higher Self. Remember that the answers don’t always pop into your mind fully formed as you meditate or pray. You may find them slowly evolving into your consciousness over several days or weeks as you ask for insight.
5. Create positive self talk.
Pay attention to what you tell yourself about yourself and your life. If the general tone is hopeful and positive you feel better and are more optimistic. William James said, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” It’s easier to create a life you love when you give yourself affirmative message.
6. Practice an attitude of gratitude.
Research has shown that the happiest people are the ones who have gratitude for all that they have despite their circumstances. You don’t have to postpone happiness until you have achieved all your goals. Joy is an inside job. In the Talmud it says, “In the world to come each of us will be called to account for all the good things God put on this earth which we refused to enjoy.” Learn to appreciate the unfolding process of your life, not just the realization of your dreams.
7. Take action.
People often get stuck because they can’t figure out how to get from Point A to Point Z. What is one thing you could do that would be a next step? Take a class, talk to a friend, read a book on a topic of interest, learn a new skill. Take action on what feels exciting to you.
8. Look for coincidences and synchronicities.
It has been said that coincidences are God’s way of remaining anonymous. We often have serendipity occurring in our lives as a way to show us we are on the right path. As you trust your intuitive knowing you’ll find these synchronicities occurring more often.
9. Know that there will be ebbs and flows.
We often reach success through a series of ups and downs. When you are in a “down” place and feeling stuck, know that it won’t last forever. Find some ways to enjoy your life despite the lull and continue to focus on what you want.
10. Trust in divine order.
Maybe you’re beginning to feel as Mother Theresa once did when she said, “I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much.” The Universe has a perfect plan for your growth and unfolding as a human being. As you learn to be guided by your intuition you’re beginning to act on this wisdom from the Universe.

Imagine the shift in the monetary system when you join with other conscious, enlightened beings offering this transforming service to humanity in a 24-hour period.
This service of cleaning/clearing the currency can be done anytime and any place as often as possible. As you hold money in your hand and envision its connection to the entire matrix, energetically clean it and bless it with gratitude. Do this service each day. I call upon the beloved I AM, the All That Is the Divine Source, Angels, Archangels and the Celestial Realms of Love and Light to support and assist this process.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve with others as we unite to transform the matrix of our financial reality as we cleanse and clear all currency of any energetic discordance.
With clear intention I envision the currency and money being energetically cleansed. I envision this currency now going out blessing everyone and everything it touches.
I envision the power of the Pure White Light and the Violet Flame of Transmutation, moving through all banks and financial institutions uplifting and cleansing the entire monetary reality of the world. With this action of sacred service I join with others to transmute anything unlike the highest and the best financial well-being for all.
